Web hosting is a very legitimate need for most individuals and businesses. Unfortunately it is also an urgent need for hackers and spammers of many kinds. These people will always try to sign up for cheap hosting accounts, especially if there is an x months for free promo. Worse: they will also sign up for more expensive hosting accounts using stolen credit card info!

If you’re looking to create a website for the UK market, whether you envision it being a large site that sees a lot of traffic, or a smaller scale project that won’t need as much capacity, or support as much traffic, you’re going to be faced with a few tricky choices. In addition to the actual site design, how the website is going to be set up (blog, business site, or do you need e-commerce hosting), your URL, and so much more, you’re also going to have to think about which UK web hosting provider to go with.
There are a lot of web hosting companies – we started by analyzing over 40 companies – so it can be difficult to wade through the pages of service details to determine which companies provide the best services. In a space where it can be easy for companies to hide behind terminology and faulty promises, it can be hard to differentiate the service that will keep your business's website humming from the one that could drive customers away because of slow load times.

Pricing in our list of cheap web hosts is based on the regular monthly prices, with no discounts applied for the starter plans. If the host offers monthly plans, that's the price we use, even though many of them work out to be cheaper on a per-month basis if you pay upfront for the annual plan. If you're buying on price, you might not want to pay the full year up front, even if it means saving a bit on the back end. Some budgets really are that tight, and some projects may not last a year. Our cutoff for inclusion in this table is that a provider must charge $8 per month or less. Yes, that's an arbitrary number. We chose $8 per month because that means you can have web hosting for less than $100 per year.
Auto-renewal: Many companies will automatically renew your service at the end of your contract term. You may need to provide written notice 30 days in advance to cancel your service at the end of your contract term. This isn't something we directly analyzed in our reviews or best picks, but it's an important practice to be aware of. The renewal process is usually outlined in the terms of service agreement of each company. If you're worried about getting poked with a refreshed contract, make sure you understand the renewal and cancellation process before you sign up. Talking to a sales representative may be your best bet.

As with HostGator, watch out for pre-ticked extras when signing up to Bluehost. If you’re a small business working to a tight budget, it’s tempting to ignore any optional extras. Domain Privacy, though, is a bargain at $1 extra a month. It hides your details from the public domain, protecting you from scams like domain hijacking and spammers. This can save your business time and money (not to mention you a lot of stress).

Had a WP site with HostGator 4 years ago. Tried to cancel it and it took 4 months. The pressure they put on you is incredible but I still wanted it canceled. The guy said he did and actually lied over the phone and I was billed the next month. So I called again, yep, missed the cutoff so I was billed again. Then a “glitch” meant I was billed again. Just be prepared and make sure you get everything in writing when you cancel and then call back to verify. I was canceling for my own reasons not for a HostGator issue.
We were impressed by multiple 24/7 customer support options, including phone, web, and ticket-based help. Bluehost’s help services are broken into three departments — Sales, Tech Support, and Account Management — which are each further broken down into up to eight subdivisions for more specialized assistance. Along with its 24/7 customer service lines, Bluehost also has a 24/7 live chat option.

It's rare to find a web hosting provider that offers free trial periods, but luckily, money back guarantees are common. Typically, web hosts will allow you to sign up and purchase a plan, and if you find that what you bought isn't the right option for you, you can take advantage of the money back guarantee to receive a full refund of the fees you paid.

The title is the 14 Best Web Hosting for Personal WebSites, (Did the writer research any of the websites before making the post?) My Complaint is with 1and1.com, It went so far that I filed a complaint with the BBB and the BBB Rep. said there were hundreds of complaints against them. How it started every week 1and1 would add a new paid feature to my account that I never asked for and if I didn’t contact someone to have it removed I was charged. Well they added a feature that was a few hundred dollars and I missed it being at the time I was only using the email and tinkering with the website when I felt like it, so when time came due they wanted the bill paid. 1and1 went as far as to take it to my credit report, as well as when I wen to transfer my domain they locked me out of my account so I was unable to do so. I figured my domain was about to expire in a few months anyhow that I would just wait till then and go with someone else. Well low and behold 1and1.com stole my domain and when I googled I am only 1 of many that they have done this too and they relist the domains for sale. So please before you post the greatest list of web hosting companies do some research because I was naive enough to believe your website instead of doing the type of research I do now when looking into these things.

One of the most significant problems with Wix is, once you pick a template for your site, you kinda have to stick with it. Otherwise, you have to start an entirely new website to change it. There's a free plan you can start with, but the premium plans range from $5 to $25 per month. In the most basic premium plan called the Connect Domain, you get 1 GB of bandwidth and 500 MB of storage, and in the most premium VIP plan, you get 20 GB of storage and $300 in ad vouchers.
Moving to another website consists of transferring the website’s files and databases, configuring your site with the new host, and directing your domain’s DNS to the new host. Once you pick a new site host, they can usually help you out with this process. The cost will depend on the host you’re switching to, but it will probably be anywhere from $150-$400.
